Are You Interested In Bringing A Rabbit Into Your House?

Medieval monks kept rabbits in cages and looked after them well. Rabbit was the ready food for the members of the monasteries. As time rolled by, with selective breeding, the caged rabbits became tame. They got used to human company. Further selective breeding resulted in a wide variety of coats, colors and sizes. Today we have the best breeds of rabbits such as lop ears, giants, polish and Netherlands dwarfs. These breeds make best pets.

With the founding of the House Rabbit Society in 1988 in USA and similar societies all over the world, information about house rabbits is in plenty.

It is a universal fact that rabbits are cute animals with soft fur and toy-like appearance. They form close bonds with children and adults. They are intelligent and responsive and possess the attributes of a lovable pet.

Rabbits are active only in the mornings and evenings, taking rest for most part of the day. Unlike cats or dogs, rabbits do not require day- long attention. They are more economical. With proper health care, you will have a lovely bunny on your lap to play with and continue your studies.

Please take the assistance of your parents and make them involved in choosing a breed that suits your taste.

Lop eared rabbits are most popular available in pet shops. Miniature lops, dwarf lops, German lops, cashmere lops and French lops are the commonest names you will come across in pet shops. Select a rabbit that is one year old and has healthy teeth.

If you are particular about coat type, there are three varieties to choose from; Normal, rex and longhaired. Of these Rex rabbits are the preferred pets as they have a velvety coat. It is easy to clean this breed.

Before you go to a pet shop, make enquiries at rescue centers. You may find a rabbit that suits your taste. Rabbits in rescue centers are put up for adoption. They are neutered and vaccinated. They will be your safest choice.
